WHAT IS A DISCIPLE?
At March for a Million, we are passionate about discipleship. The word "disciple" simply means "learner" and that is just what following Jesus is all about – the lifelong process of learning to live as a student of Jesus, pursuing both the character and actions of Jesus Christ.
CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT
Pursuing Jesus in character means exhibiting love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control - especially when no one is looking. (Galatians 5:22-23) As the Holy Spirit draws us to study the Bible, pray, form accountability and community with other believers, serve others and worship, our character grows to more closely resemble Jesus.
ACTIONS
Pursuing Jesus in action means actually doing what he did. Jesus' ministry on earth exhibited skills such as teaching, healing, pastoring, meeting needs, prophesying, evangelizing, and disciple-making. Rather than just learning about him, we experience the empowerment of God as we seek to actively embody the actions of Jesus in our everyday lives, serving others as he did.
PASS IT ON
The goal of March for a Million is that one million people in Indiana by the year 2050 experience this process of discipleship as they walk together with another believer. We call that relationship “discipling” because it involves teaching and modeling to another believer how to grow in relationship with Jesus. Discipling happens when a follower of Jesus who is pursuing a relationship with Him in both character and actions guides another person in this same path.
WHO CAN MAKE A DISCIPLE?
If you know Jesus Christ as your Savior and have experienced his forgiveness, you can pursue Him in character and action and lead others to do the same! We believe that God can use the “unqualified” and calls all believers to a life of discipleship. We have a vision for followers of Jesus from all across Indiana, from all denominations, churches, racial backgrounds, economic realities, and different walks of life to come together and lock arms in an effort to help others experience life change through Jesus Christ. This cyclical process – we equip and grow disciples who in turn go out to equip and disciple others – brings exponential growth to the Kingdom of God! (allaboutfollwoingjesus.org)
